During your week, you will visit museums, attend a Broadway show, take in a performance by the New York City Philharmonic, and see the sights.
- By the end of this module session you will have:
- found a hotel to stay in
- printed a copy of your driving directions
- chosen seven different restaurants for dinner
- planned activities for seven days
- written a journal describing the details of your trip
Let's Get Started...
Decide when you want to go. Choose a Saturday within the next 30 days. The trip will last 9 days, this includes driving as well. You will leave home on a Saturday and arrive home on the following Sunday. You will need to select dates that correspond with the plans you make. You will be driving.
Plan the trip as if you have unlimited financial resources and could stay wherever you choose and do whatever you want to do. You will submit your assignment to your teacher in journal form, dated daily, as if you had already taken the trip. Imagine how each event was and describe it in detail.
- Example: “Today is Sunday, October 5, 2015. I had a great day of sight-seeing. Sam and I visited the Statue of Liberty. It was awesome! Later we grabbed the ferry to Ellis Island . This was the place all immigrants traveled through when arriving in the United States . The tour was very interesting. I bought myself a key-chain that says ‘I ♥ New York ’ at the Ellis Island Gift Shop. We ate dinner at the Ellis Island Café. Their cheeseburger was very appetizing. We took the 5:30 ferry back and were in our hotel room by 6:30 . I’m very excited about tomorrow. I’ll be seeing my first Broadway play.”
Scan through the list of resources provided to familiarize yourself with which link offers the information you need.
Select a hotel in New York City . Be sure to include the name and some details about your hotel in your journal. Don’t be too concerned about location. Since you have unlimited money, you can leave your car parked at the hotel and take taxis, Ubers, or transit wherever you go.
Once you know the address of your hotel, get driving directions from Google Maps. Print the directions from your home to the hotel and include with your project.
If you choose to fly to New York, you will need to print your flight information showing what time your flight is arriving/departing. Please make sure that the dates match for when you decided to travel. You can find flights at United, Southwest, or American.
